Are there days when you can go to work a little late? Then consider these easy and fun volunteer jobs:
- We are looking for a parent volunteer to be our IT overseer. If you have those skills and a desire to help, please send an e-mail to sloatparents@gmail.com as soon as possible.
- Stuff Wednesday envelopes - Wednesday mornings from about 8:45-9:15 or so. Just show up in the cafeteria after morning assembly any Wednesday. No RSVP required. Volunteers bring the Wednesday envelope boxes from the classrooms. As they arrive, you can grab one, stuff it, and return it to the classroom. 15-20 minutes at most.
- Take a Valet Drop-Off shift. - Weekday mornings between 8:20-8:40 a.m. We offer a valet drop-off service at the front of the school each morning, rain or shine. And we're chronically short of volunteers. You can cover Valet one day a week, once every two weeks, or once a month; whatever works for you. Volunteers show up at 8:20, put on an orange jacket, put out the traffic cones, and then open doors and point children toward the front door. At 8:45, you put your jacket and the cones away, and you're done. Sloat has two passenger loading zones: On Darien Way in front of the school and also on San Fernando Way by the entrance to the upper yard. We usually don't have the staff to cover both zones for Valet Drop-Off, so please consider taking a shift and making it safer for the kids and reducing traffic in the area. If you're interested, send an e-mail to sloatparents@gmail.com.
- Lead a School Tour - Remember touring schools when you were trying to pick a kindergarten? At Sloat, the tours are led by parent volunteers. Tour leaders should be somewhat experienced with the school and should be prepared to study a bit to make sure they know their facts. Tours run from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesdays from the middle of October until the enrollment deadline in January. Send an e-mail to sloatparents@gmail.com if you're interested.
