WEATHERING & EROSION

Mr. Dwyer & Mr. Kenney (Grade 4): Science Standards - ES5 Waves, wind, water, and ice shape and reshape Earth’s land surface. As a basis for understanding this concept....

  • ES5A - Students know some changes in the earth are due to slow processes, such as erosion and some changes are due rapid processes, such as land slides, volcanic eruption and earthquakes.
  • ES5B - Students know natural processes, including freezing and thawing and the growth of roots cause rocks to break down into smaller pieces.
  • ES5C - Students know moving water erodes land forms, reshaping the land by taking it away from sample places and depositing it as pebbles, sand, silt, and mud in other places (weathering, transport, and deposition).

POETRY ABOUT LOSS

5th Grade (Ms. Schock & Ms. Leishman): We started with two poems by Naomi Shihab Nye and focused our first writing activity on the theme of loss. We held a discussion about things we have lost or things we are afraid to lose. As you see, the poems reflect a meaningful experience that created fabulous work!

ODES

4th Grade (Mr. Dwyer & Mr. Kenney): We started the year exploring List Poems by writing poems inspired by the song “My Favorite Things,” moving on to Odes inspired by Pablo Neruda’s “Ode to Tomatoes,” and then writing Story Poems which are “poem versions of a story” as student Jason Kwan defined for us.
